Crime
In recent years, Malawi crime statistics have been on the rise. In urban settings, there are escalating cases of armed robberies in offices and homes and steep increases in car thefts. Crime by gangs operating in both urban and rural areas is of specific concern. The rise of crime is partially attributed to an ill equipped police force of 5,000 officers to safeguard an estimated 11 million people, compounded by increasing numbers of illegal immigrants who collude with Malawi citizens. Police tend to act more violent due to the lack of officers.
Isaiah 59:13 In transgressing and lying against the LORD, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.
14 And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter.
Homosexuality
Homosexuality is banned in Malawi and carries a maximum prison sentence of 14 years. Malawians see homosexual activity as public indecency and anyone who is gay is forced to keep in hiding. However, in late December 2009, two gay men, Tiwonge Chimbalanga and Steve Monjeza, were arrested for holding a traditional 'engagement' party after holding the first same-sex marriage. Human rights lawyers fight to claim that the Penal Code stating homosexuality as illegal is against the Constitution which prohibits any form of discrimination against people.
Romans 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
Abortion
Abortion is illegal in Malawi except in the case of saving the mother’s life. That may be better than most other countries, but how about no killing the baby no matter what? If the fools were obeying the commandments of god in the first place, then this kind of dilemma wouldn’t come up at all.
Divorce and Remarriage
Malawi has among the highest divorce rates on the continent, landing around 40-65%.
Luke 16:18 Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.
Proverbs 6:32 But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
Sexual Trafficking
Malawi is a source, transit, and destination country for men, women, and children trafficked for the purposes of forced labor and sexual exploitation. Children are mainly trafficked for forced labor on plantations. Girls and young women are trafficked internally for forced labor and prostitution at local bars and rest houses. Malawian adults and children are tricked by job offers into forced labor and sexual exploitation in surrounding countries. In 2008, Malawian men were also trafficked to Tanzania for forced labor in the fishing industry.
HIV/AIDS
The AIDS epidemic is responsible for eight deaths every hour in Malawi. Out of a population of nearly 14 million, almost one million people in Malawi were living with HIV at the end of 2007. AIDS is the leading cause of death amongst adults in Malawi, and is a major factor in the country’s low life expectancy of just 43 years. Malawi is among some of the world’s highest rates for HIV infected people.
Ephesians 5:3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
