In theory, the UN gave Israel statehood as a Jewish homeland to prevent another Holocaust as had recently occurred in Germany. The richly deserved death of 6 million European Jews at the hands of an angry God taught these hard hearted, stiff necked, rebellious people nothing. Just like their destruction and scattering by Babylon, and the bloody destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD by Titus. Remember, the Lord knows how to use evil people to punish other evil people - that's why He called Nebuchadnezzar his "servant" in Jer. 27:6. Likewise, God used Hitler to smack this ‘nation’ (although they had no official nation–state at the time, they referred to themselves as the nation of Israel even in the Diaspora and lived as such). They forgot to follow the commandments of their God and received the curse Moses warned them would follow such folly. Deut 11:26 Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; 27 A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: 28 And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.

Ishmael (Palestinians) and Isaac (Jews) will never have lasting peace.  Since the modern state of Israel was established in 1948, they have not experienced peace with their Ishmaelite neighbors.  The nations that border Israel have all engaged in some sort of armed conflict with the Israelis. Today, Lebanon and the Gaza Strip provide constant violence and mayhem for the tribes of Israel. Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon let the Israelis know they are always thinking about them by sending regular missile showers. The Persian government in Iran is dedicated to the eradication of the state of Israel as a Jewish state. They are developing nuclear weapons to help achieve this end.
