They do not have free speech in Ethiopia; therefore, the government pokes their noses all up in the business of the media. The Ethiopian Broadcasting Agency (EBA) has been mandated to tell all media agencies to re-register all of their companies so the government can determine whether a person who owns a big piece of the company is also in a position of editorial authority within the company. So, the new law is basically this: If you are a publisher of a newspaper or magazine, you may not be the editor also. BIG WHOOP! They believe this will stop certain companies from having a monopoly over the media in Ethiopia! Yes, but it will not bar say their son/daughter/nephew/niece/uncle/grandson/GET IT?!
