Revealed Against Ecuador
In 2008 severe flooding in Ecuador affected 250,000, cost more than $45,000,000 and lead to a number of deaths.
In 2006, Tungurahua, the “Throat of Fire” in the Cordillera Central of Ecuador, erupted and killed a number of people and displaced more then 25,000.
In 2002, TAME Flight 120 crashed into a volcano on approach to Tulcán, Ecuador in low-visibility conditions. All 94 on board were killed.
2001 – 41 people died in a mud/landslide after the country was engulfed in heavy rain.
In 1998, Ecuador experienced one of its worst economic crises. El Niño caused $3 billion in damage; the price of its principal export, oil, plunged; and its inflation rate—43%—was the highest in Latin America. In 1999, the government was near bankruptcy, the currency lost 40% of its value against the dollar, and the poverty rate soared to 70%, doubling in five years.
1976 – SAETA Flight 232 from Quito to Cuenca, Ecuador with 59 people went missing. It was not until 2002, 26 years later that the crash site was discovered. All on board were killed.
In 1987 Ecuador experienced an earthquake of 7.0 on the Richter scale killing over 1,000 people.
1949 – An earthquake in Ambato, Ecuador killed thousands.
In 1797 Quito, a volcano in Ecuador experienced a huge earthquake that killed an estimated 40,000 people.
