East Timor became a Portuguese colony in the 16th century and remained so until it became independent in 1975. Indonesia immediately invaded and took control. The Indonesians ruled with an iron fist, violently pounding out any opposition to their rule. The United States of Doomed america, Australia and other Western powers supported the brutal Indonesian regime in their oppression of the East Timorese. Since most Indonesians are Muslim and most East Timorese are Christian the two groups never got a long.
The East Timorese people continued to press for independence which eventually resulted in the Indonesian military massacring peaceful demonstrators in Santa Cruz on November 12, 1991. Over 500 people are believed to have been slaughtered. Some Australian journalists happened to film the event and tried to take their footage to Australia. Since the evil sodomite government of Australia was in working with the vile Islamic-pedophile Indonesian government, they tried to confiscate the footage. The journalists were able to smuggle it to a Dutch journalist who then shared it with the world. This resulted in widespread international support for an independent East Timor. On August 30, 1999 East Timor became an independent nation.
The government of East Timor is run by a president, a prime minister and a parliament. The capital is Dili. The relatively new country is still developing its infrastructure.
