God's Wrath on East TimorApril 26, 2006 Riots broke out throughout the country, especially in the capital city, Dili. The crisis arose due to complaints from soldiers from the Western part of the country feeling discriminated against in favor of soldiers form the Eastern part of the country.

2005 Banda Sea earthquake A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck about 500km form East Timor. This was the most recent strong earthquake there.

1999-ongoing Civil Unrest Riots like that of April 26, 2006 are likely to occur at any time as this new nation struggles to set up a stable and efficient government. Even minor disputes between residents can turn into violent altercations with bystanders.        

1975-1979 Starvation and disease Approximately 200,000 East Timorese lost their lives due to war-related starvation and disease.

Leprosy East Timor is one of the last countries that still has an epidemic of lepers. The poverty and squalor of East Timor provides the perfect breeding ground for the bacteria that cause leprosy. The Lord sent this curse to the disobedient East Timorese just as He sent it to other reprobates throughout history. 

Earthquakes and Volcanoes East Timor is situated on the “Ring of Fire,” a region in the Pacific Ocean known for its frequent, strong earthquakes and volcanoes.  At any time, with no notice a strong earthquake can strike East Timor.

Infant Mortality Along with the nation of Mali in Africa, East Timor has the highest infant mortality rate in the world. 160 out of every 1,000 infants die before their first birthday.
