Democratic Republic of the Congo's Evil Government

Democratic Republic of the Congo's Evil GovernmentPsalms 94:20  Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?
“A vast country with immense economic resources, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) has been at the centre of what could be termed Africa's world war.” – BBC Oct. 3, 2009
The many names of the DRC over the years:

Congo Free State (1885–1908)
Belgian Congo (1908–60) this was arguably the longest - albeit coerced - period of tranquility the country has experienced.
Republic of The Congo aka Congo-Leopoldville (1960–64)
Democratic Republic of the Congo (1964–66)
Democratic Republic of the Congo aka Congo-Kinshasa (1966-71)
Republic of Zaire (1971–97)
Democratic Republic of the Congo aka Congo-Kinshasa (since 1997).

The history of DR Congo is one filled with civil war and corruption. After obtaining its independence in 1960, the country immediately faced an army mutiny and an attempt at secession by the province of Katanga. Then in 1965, the country was taken over by force by the chief of the army of the country, Joseph Mobuto. When the name of the country was changed to Zaire in 1971, Mobuto took advantage of the conflict between the Soviet Union and the United States during the cold war and attacked a Soviet-backed Angola, which ensured assistance from the U.S.

From 1971 to 1997 Zaire (now DRC), was plagued with almost continual war with the backing of the brutish U.S., but in 1997 (after the Cold War was over) the U.S. lost interest in Zaire and Zaire was invaded by Rwanda. The extremist Hutu militias of Rwanda quickly captured the capital of Zaire (Kinshasa), named Laurent Kabila as president and changed the name of the country to Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Since the overthrow of Zaire in 1997, various rebel armies have sprung up throughout the DRC, and especially the eastern regions of the country face militia violence daily. The United Nations has a continually presence (their largest anywhere) in the DRC with hopes to create peace, but there is no peace for the wicked.

Isaiah 48:22 There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.

Since the creation of the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1997, the country has struggled to establish a sound government system. The past four years were spent having two constitutions established by new political institutions at different levels of the branches of the government, but now have supposedly settled into a stable presidential democratic republic. The current constitution of the country, when first released as a draft, enabled elections to be carried out in 2006. In those elections the draft of the constitution was to be voted for and approved by the people. The great majority of the people of the DRC stated that the document was ambiguous and were unaware of what it actually said. This was due largely because of the very high illiteracy rates in the country. With this to his advantage, the interim president, President Joseph Kabila (his father Laurent Kabila had been assassinated), used his bully pulpit to push the people to vote “Yes” for the constitution and “Yes” for him to be president. Kabila was voted into office and the constitution was approved by 84% of the voters. The new constitution granted new powers to provincial governments, set the government up to be led by a Prime Minister and Parliament, and it did away with the Supreme Court of the country.

The state government of the DRC is very fragile, and has allowed continual conflict and human rights abuse. There are several rebel armies in the country, and there has been civil war since the overthrow of Zaire in 1997. This war is known as the world’s most deadliest conflict since WWII. The DRC is controlled by people who hate God and who only seek to serve themselves. War will continue to go on in this country, for it is there curse, and the /Lord has appointed unto them terror as their lot.

Leviticus 26:16  I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.
