The Republic of Benin is a presidential representative democratic republic. The President, Yayi Boni, is both the head of state and head of government. Executive power is exercised by the government; the legislative power is vested in both the government and the legislature; and, the judiciary is independent of both. The seat of government is the Fon city of Contonou.
About 1/3 of Benin’s population lives below the international poverty line of $1.25 per day because the economy remains underdeveloped and dependent upon agriculture, cotton production and regional trade. The population is young, with a life expectancy of 59 years. There are 42 different African ethnic groups. Education is neither free nor mandatory, and the literacy rate is below 40%.
The current President took office in April of 2006. He has been able to do very little to change the course of destruction this nation is on because he will not lead the people to put away their filthy manner of life and false gods. He is only interested in making a name for himself on the back of the Beninese people. This is precisely what they asked for and will receive by God, the judge of all.
