Nearly 99% of the population of Afghanistan is Muslim.   85% are Sunnites and 14% are Shiites. The Constitution provides that the state religion is Islam (Muslim). The tyrannical Muslim crazies of course cannot bear that people of any society would be free from their heavy-handed form of idolatry so their Constitution mandates their President be... you guessed it... Muslim.     Religious freedom is nonexistent in Afghanistan and it is of course, a crime to criticize the Islamic religion even if the criticism is well-founded and reasonable.  So truly, there is about as much religious freedom in Afghanistan as there was during the Spanish Inquisition under the Catholics. In practice “you can practice other religions as much as you want...we’ll just kill you if you do however.”  Apostasy from Islam is punishable by death.  Much of the ruin of Afghanistan can be squarely placed on the shoulders of Islam.
